Popular Limpopo musician has died – King Monada’s producer in hospital, 2 other people die

Limpopo musician Samuel Maritus Malatji, affectionately known to his fans as Lil Meri, has died. The 22-year-old artist from Ralela Village in Bolobedu died on Saturday, 11 December after a short illness.

His manager Given Khobane told the publication that Lil Meri died on arrival at the hospital.

“His family is crushed and devastated at the same time because it happened so quickly after he alerted them that he wasn’t feeling well and pleaded with them to take him to hospital. He suddenly succumbed to the short illness,” said Given.

Lil Meri started his music career with a group called Mabad Company before breaking out and started singing solo.

His memorable songs include Ngwana wa Motho, which was nominated for the Limpopo Music Awards and Sepedi Music Awards.

Lil Meri was featured in several hits with well-known Limpopo music groups, the Double Trouble, and the Bad Company.

Jan Maluleke (DJ Janisto) said he was still shocked by the sudden death of his counterpart, Lil Meri.

“He worked with us, the Double Trouble, and me as an individual. He was very bright and super talented and creative. When he enters the studio during the recordings you don’t even have to prepare lyrics for him.

“I’m so heartbroken right now because we have just released two tracks “Jesu Waka” and “Rato Laka” together which we were planning to shoot a music video next week, but sadly he has passed away,” DJ Janisto said.
