Six times Riky Rick showed Mzansi he has a kind heart

Among all the stars who have died so far in 2022, Riky Rick’s death has been the most painful because of the many things he did that showed he had a kind heart.

The rapper was very accessible, based on his constant visibility on social media, the love he showed on stage and how he always strived to lift others up. Here are 5 things done by Rikhado Muziwendlovu Makhado, which showed Mzansi he had a kind heart.

Giving out money to petrol attendants and dancing with them

Back in 2018, Riky Rick went to a service station to refill his car. The attendants immediately recognized him and all of them left their pumps so they can meet him, as they were fans.

Riky greeted them and, since he was playing Feels by Calvin Harris, Big Sean and Katy Perry, they all started dancing while he was sitting in his car. As they were vibing to the song, Riky took out a wad of cash and started handing out money to them. The petrol attendants could not hide their excitement.

Riky seemingly had a soft spot for the guys at fuel stations. In February 2019, a few days after Cotton Fest 2019, Boss Zonke went to a BP service station and handed out Nike Air Max 95 sneakers to the petrol attendants.

The video went viral then, especially on Twitter. He gave out sneakers as it was one of his signature pieces of fashion, which he loved dearly. Riky revealed that he would be gifting his ‘brothers’ with sneakers and apparel for “always taking care of me”.

Introducing and pushing up Uncle Vinny

Although the teen sensation started his career at 15 as a radio presenter at Hillbrow FM, Riky Rick played a huge role in pushing him to stardom. Back in 2017, Riky was being interviewed by Slikour at an event, and he disrupts it by introducing Uncle Vinny: “Yo, you need to give this little n***a a job. He is the youngest radio host in South Africa right now.”

Riky then left the scene, leaving Slikour interviewing the young Vinny. Watch the video below:

King Kotini, as Riky was also affectionately known, believed in Uncle vinny so much that he gave him the opportunity to host the first ever Cotton Fest back in 2019.

Offering Slik Talk an opportunity to host his podcast, Lab Live

Riky Rick always believed in pushing up talent. In 2020, when Slik Talk was little known, Riky sent him a message on social media, inviting him to do a show with him in a podcast he was setting up.

Slik Talk revealed: “Riky Rick reached out to me in 2020 September when my channel didn’t even have a thousand subscribers. He reached out to me and said ‘I think you have potential and talent, and I want to do a show with you called Lab Live. Even though I turned down the show, he still had the decency to say if you need any advice or anything, feel free to call me and let me know.”

His 2017 Metro FM Awards acceptance speech

Riky Rick did not just prop up new talent. He also stood up for upcoming artists when need arose. One of the most memorable moments in his life was when he took to the stage to accept his Best Hit Song award for Sidlukotini in 2017 at the Metro Awards.

Riky said: “There’s a lot of people that are struggling to put music out in this country, and I feel like there’s too many structures that are blocking people from putting out the dopest music – 90% of the shit I hear on radio is garbage. The stuff is living on the internet, everything is on the internet right now. So, if you’re a kid and you’re watching this right now, forget radio. If they don’t let you play on radio, you better go to the internet and make your songs pop on the internet.”

Riky Rick will be truly be remembered for his selflessness. Riky Rick had a kind heart.
