Outgoing Auditor-General, Kimi Makwetu has died in hospital aged 54. The auditor general’s office has released a statement confirming that he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2018.
The news comes, less than a week, after Makwetu was appointed to the United Nations Independent Audit Advisory Committee.
Makwetu was appointed auditor-general in December 2013. He had spent seven years as the country’s deputy auditor-general.
