Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat attacked for donating to South Africa instead of Zimbabwe in fight against Coronavirus
Looking at the bad situation Zimbabwe is in right now, people expected if the player could donate, he would have considered where he comes from first, before anything.
South African based Zimbabwean footballer Khama Billiat has again hogged headlines following sensational reports that he has ‘betrayed’ his country.
Reports reaching Zim247 news have indicated that the Kaizer Chief’s star player has suffered massive public criticism after it was revealed that he made contributions towards the South African government’s combat against the coronavirus (COVID-19) whilst his home country is incapacitated to deal with coronavirus cases.
According to soccer24, some cynics have attacked the international footballer for focusing on providing relief for the neighboring country instead of his home country.
Reports filtering in have revealed that some of the locals who were outraged by the soccer player’s decision, cited that Zimbabwe was in desperate need of aid in contrast to South Africa which is better equipped to fight COVID-19.
‘I think people are just having an unnecessary sense of entitlement, to a point where they want to manage other people’s personal incomes. Before we criticize Khama, let’s ask ourselves this simple question; who monitors what we do with our personal incomes?,’ said Bruce Moyo in an interview with soccer24.
‘Some people who are accusing Billiat have bought more groceries for their in-laws than their own parents ahead of this lockdown, but I doubt Khama has questioned their behaviors. After all, we all know that the said player has been doing some charity work here in Zimbabwe, let us appreciate that. Let people do what they want with their income,’ he added.
Nobert Basvi, a staunch CAPS United fan, echoed Moyo’s words.
‘In as much as we say charity begins at home, I strongly believe that Khama is working and donating stuff back home me his own time. Remember, he donated to people who live in South Africa and some of them are Zimbabweans even so.
‘It starts from where you are then it spreads, let’s give him time the say staff latter if he fails to donate, after all, it’s his money he can do whatever he wants with it. Those who are saying why S.A before Zimbabwe what have they done to the vulnerable in their communities?’
