Veteran actor Kevin Smith is joining BET’s Isono.
Kevin is joining the soapie as Elliot King, who will shake up Mary’s life.
The actor told Daily Sun his character will take Isono viewers back in time and show them some of Mary’s history.
“Elliot King is a man of mystery. He has a history and has had his finger in quite a lot of pies. He’s what you would call a gun for hire. He’s a mercenary and he knows how to make his way around the world because he’s well travelled,” said Kevin.
“As a young man, he got into some questionable business together with Mary, played by Nthati Moshesh. They had an intense relationship because they both love the risky side of life and don’t like playing it safe. They went their separate ways and it wasn’t a good break-up because Mary kept some secrets from him. Elliot gets contacted by a stranger who tells him he has a daughter with Mary, and he’s taken by surprise by that.”
The actor said it had been a difficult time for him when the opportunity to be on Isono came about.
“It’s quite remarkable what BET and Isono has been doing to maintain a production at such a difficult time. For me, I was in a difficult state. When I was approached with a casting brief, I sent in a self-tape and I was called and told I got the role,” he said.
“It was such a relief for me to practise my craft again. Also, the character is an action figure and he’s dynamic,” said Kevin.
Elliot King makes his debut tonight on Isono on BET, channel 129 at 9.30pm.
