SAMA slams government for not budgeting for junior doctors

The government is once again being slammed for failing to plan places for junior doctors.

The South African Medical Association says a tremendous amount of time and money has been invested in training these doctors.

But neither the Health Minister nor Treasury incorporated their placement into budget adjustments tabled in Parliament last month.

Internship and community service are state-imposed requirements, as well as being part of the medics’ training.

SAMA is calling on the government to find the money to pay the junior doctors, or risk facing the full might of the law.
