Sasria says police should have acted faster over July unrest

State insurer Sasria says if the police responded within the first days of the July unrest it would not have lost R27-billion.

The non-life insurer provides cover against special risks.

It says police and other security services should have acted faster.

Sasria’s Muzi Dladla says it does foresee more unrest in the future.

“If there was a response within the first three days of the riots, the damage would not have been as it is today,” he said.

So if the response was within that period and there was no additional consequential damage the loss could have been around R12-billion, give or take.”
