Juan Mata reveals how Diogo Dalot can become a top player. The 19-year-old right back impressed in the 4-1 win against Fulham in his second Premier League start and was handed the man of the match award for his efforts.
Juan Mata believes Diogo Dalot has what it takes to become a top player at Manchester United if he avoids injury. And Mata, who scored his 50th Premier League goal in the first half, believes the Portuguese defender has what it takes to build a successful career at the club.
“He is a very good guy, he came with the difficulty of a knee injury and he is working very hard,” Mata told MUTV. “He is a good guy and I’m very happy he is finding his feet at the club.
“He is still very young and if he is very lucky with injuries, which I hope he will be, he can be a very, very good player.” Mata also received plaudits for his role in the win after scoring United’s second and setting up Romelu Lukaku for United’s third. Mata’s contributions meant he has now scored 50 Premier League goals and notched up 50 league assists – something the Spaniard is proud of.
“It’s not a bad record, 50 goals and 50 assists,” he said. “When I came to the Premier League I was very excited and motivated and I’m enjoying it so much. I want more goals and assists and more enjoyment on the pitch.”
And he is now looking forward to returning to his former side Valencia in the Champions League on Wednesday.
“Another special game. I have a lot of love for the club, the city and the fans,” Mata said. “We go in a good position because we are already qualified so hopefully I can enjoy that night and we can see a very good game.”
