ActionSA says Joburg needs a mayor who can deliver

The City of Johannesburg’s coalition woes continue.

The latest scandal to hit the turbulent metro involves it’s latest mayor, Al-Jamah-Ah’s Kabelo Gwamanda.

He’s been accused of fraud linked to his investment company, iThemba Lama Afrika.

Gwamanda is the metro’s third mayor in just five months.

ActionSA’s Funzi Ngobeni says the city urgently needs a leader that can deliver services.

“There is no minimum requirement to be a mayor, I think what is required for a big city like this and economic hub…it’s a mayor that is firstly, integrity.

“Secondly, the mayor that is able to understand the local government regulation and the laws that governs the local government and the mayor that is present at all times to respond to the residents and to councillors who are holding him accountable at sporadic times so that is what is required,” Ngobeni said.

“This EFF and ANC coalition seems to not be able to identify amongst themselves a mayor that or at least a candidate that can be able to occupy that office and deliver on their behalf.

“I think that’s one of the things we really calling them to do we are asking them to sit around the table to look amongst themselves and identify a person that can bring forward that can be able to then represent them in that office and deliver services to the residence.”
