Chief Financial Officer says Joburg motorists won’t be forced to pay bills at roadblocks

Motorists in Johannesburg will not be forced to pay their outstanding municipal bills at roadblocks.

These are the reassuring words of the City’s Chief Financial Officer, Tebogo Moraka.

The City of Joburg has received a backlash for their new debt collection strategy, where motorists stopped at a roadblock could also be asked to pay outstanding rates and taxes.

The crackdown on defaulting ratepayers began last week.
