Joburg firefighters march over safety concerns

Johannesburg’s firefighters are taking to the streets on Friday over safety concerns. This follows a recent spate of attacks and robberies while in the line of duty.

Democratic Municipal and Allied Workers Union of South Africa (Demawusa) Shop Steward, Terence Gafe, says the safety of firefighters remains a huge challenge.

Firefighters, gathered at Mary Fitzgerald Square want to hand over a memorandum of grievances to Johannesburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba, and Gauteng police.
