Jacob Zuma’s fiancée rubbishes absent dad claims after emotional post

Nonkanyiso Conco, the fiancée of former president Jacob Zuma, has denied implying that he is a bad father. The 25-year-old raised a few eyebrows last week when she shared an “appreciation post” dedicated to their two-year-old son. In the post, Nonkanyiso opened up about what it was like raising her son and seemed to suggest that she was a single parent.

Dear son it’s almost two years that I have met you, but feels like we have met many years ago. Today I want to thank you for being the reason why I need to work harder,” she started the post.

Nonkanyiso talked about a time when she was “unhappy and hurt” I get flashbacks of moments when I was all alone. The worst was when I had to prepare the celebration of his first birthday all alone. Unhappy and hurt because I had to do everything by myself, but what hurts me even more is the prospect of being a single parent,” she wrote in isiZulu. The social entrepreneur added that there are some situations when a child needed his father to be present.

But she said she had come to accept that she will do most of the parenting “alone”. I have made peace with that I’ll attend school activities alone, travel the world with him alone and take all responsibilities on raising a boy child and installing best values in his life.”

Many thought the post was a sign that there was trouble in paradise for the couple, as the post did not exactly paint Zuma in a good light. Nonkanyiso hit back at the claims. She told the Sunday Tribune that Zuma, who has several wives, does support their child. Her post, she said, was simply the “declaration of a young woman who is marrying a polygamous man”.

Any person with common sense would understand that a man who was a head of state and has such a large family wouldn’t have time for things like walking a child to a park, attending doctor’s appointments or just to buy ice cream at a mall every day,” she told the publication. Nonkanyiso revealed that Zuma missed their son’s first birthday because he was out of the country and has missed many of his milestones. She said she does not expect him to be there every day.
