NPA granted arrest warrant for Jacob Zuma

Judge Dhaya Pillay has issued a warrant of arrest for former President Jacob Zuma after failing to appear in court on Tuesday.

State advocate Billy Downer asked the court to issue the warrant for failing to show up for his arms deal case.

Representing Zuma, advocate Dan Mantsha said the health of the former president is a national security matter handled by the army.

Mantsha said it is “absurd” for the NPA to doubt another arm of the state.

Mantsha told Judge Dhaya Pillay that there is no basis for her to grant the request.

The warrant will be effective on 6 May.
