Isibaya’s Asavela Opens Up About Her Relationship With On Screen Dad! The father-daughter chemistry between Isibaya’s Asavela Mngqithi and Bongani Gumede’s characters is beautiful to watch.

In a recent interview with The Bar Magazine, Asavela opened up about being cast on Isibaya, her true passion and her relationship with Bongani off screen. The actress shared how she took the Isibaya job after dropping out of AFDA due to lack of funds because she needed a job to support her family. She added that her passion is work behind the scenes but doesn’t regret how things turned out.

Asavela got candid on how scary it was for her to work with the cast of Isibaya as she had been a fan of the show since it began. “I really looked up to them. As much as I don’t want to act, but I obviously want to shoot with them one day. So it’s sort of like finding another family in Joburg that I relate to, she shared.

Asavela also gushed over her close relationship with Bongani. “I’m very close with my on screen dad, he’s more like a dad to me, so everyday he teaches me things cause he did theatre and he’s a great actor. He has taught me a lot, I never feel uncomfortable when I have to ask him something or ask for help, you know,” the actress shared.
