Businessman Duduzane Zuma is expected in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The state is prosecuting Zuma for culpable homicide, or negligent driving linked to a fatal car crash.
A 2014 inquest found Zuma was negligent but the National Prosecuting Authority chose not to prosecute.
Then, last year, lobby group AfriForum announced plans to privately prosecute Zuma.
Last month, the NPA issued Zuma a summons to appear in court.
An inquest found he was negligent, yet the NPA chose not to press charges and that was pretty much it, for four years.
The Gupta leaks brought explosive revelations.
Emails show, after the crash, Zuma and his lawyer quickly settled outstanding traffic fines worth R7,000 and the first person he called after his Porsche hit the taxi was none other than Rajesh “Tony” Gupta.
Early in July this year, the former President’s son was issued with a summons.
A trial date is expected to be set.
Zimbabwe national Phumzile Dube died after Zuma’s Porsche collided with the minibus taxi in which she was travelling. Another passenger Nanki Jeanette Mashaba‚ who was injured in the accident‚ later died in hospital.
Zuma is facing two charges of culpable homicide and an alternative count of negligent driving.
