Im happy to work with Pogba: Jose Mourinho

The boss says there are no problems between him and the midfield star, who was given the captain’s armband for the opener against Leicester City and will continue to lead the team at the weekend, in the continued absence of Antonio Valencia.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of the trip south, Jose was happy to set the record straight regarding the situation with the World Cup-winning French star and emphasise the level of respect between the pair.

“The truth is we have been together for two years, and a couple of weeks and I’ve never been so happy with him as I am now,” the boss said. “That’s the truth. I cannot demand more from him, I cannot ask more of him.

”He came here on Monday, he trained for three days, I asked for his support, for his contribution in an important match for us, when the team had difficulties. He did it, he did it better and for more time than we could expect. When he says he did it for the fans and for the team, it’s exactly what I want. It’s exactly what I demand from my players, it is what he is giving me.

“He’s working well, he’s playing well, he does [it] for the fans, he does [it] for the team and that’s what I want. I want him to play for the team, which he’s doing, and, I repeat, I couldn’t be happier than what I am.”
