NW Health MEC slams hospital managers over babies in boxes

Managers at the Mahikeng Provincial Hospital ignored a dire equipment shortage and went to a lekgotla.

That’s the findings of a report on babies kept in cardboard boxes instead of incubators.

It’s believed the babies were in the boxes for two days.

North West Health MEC Madoda Sambatha says this shows a lack of responsibility and urgency.

Five managers are under investigation and will be moved to other hospitals.

Unions say this is just the tip of the iceberg.

A team will now be formed to investigate all operations at the hospital.
