Outa has welcomed the High Court in Pretoria’s decision to declare the AARTO and its Amendment Act unconstitutional and invalid.
Stefanie Fick, Outa chief legal officer, says the AARTO Acts are administratively complicated and rely on chaotic municipal systems.
Phase 1 was implemented in July last year and all phases were expected to be completed by July this year.
She said legislation that stops road carnage should be in place rather.
“The Amendment Act is very unpractical, keeping in mind that it’s an administrative burden.
“The question whether the RTMA will deal with this administrative nightmare was also a question,” she said.
