Here is everything you need to know about the new WhatsApp upgrade

WhatsApp is getting a ton of tweaks to make it more secure and easier to use, going by the changes spotted in the beta version of the messaging app by WABetaInfo.

The first change is a rather minor one that simply allows you to add contacts to your WhatsApp list by scanning a QR code, potentially avoiding the pain of contacts not being properly pulled in from your phone’s contacts list. The second update is more significant as it adds end-to-end encryption to WhatsApp chat backups in Apple’s iCloud.

The launch of multiple device support would let WhatsApp users access the same account on different devices at the same time. Messages could sync across those devices in real-time, letting users carry on with conversations even when they switch from the WhatsApp app on their phone to the desktop version on their laptop, for example.

Though this feature is a staple of certain competing chat programs, multiple device support hasn’t arrived for WhatsApp yet. That said, WABetaInfo seems confident it’s in the works and coming soon.
