
DA federal chairperson Helen Zille was allegedly assaulted and mishandled by police officers in the Eastern Cape on Monday.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) says it has appointed an investigator.
Ipid spokesperson Grace Langa explained that their Eastern Cape office received a complaint of assault and mishandling by police officers.
“It’s alleged the officers assaulted and mishandled Mrs Helen Zille. The case was brought to our attention, we have allocated an investigator who is trying to get hold of Helen Zille,” she said.

It is alleged that Mrs Zille was talking to the voters and one person reported her to be campaigning.The presiding officer allegedly asked her to leave and she https://t.co/2eGQNUGZEn is alleged the police were called in and they pushed her out of the voting station.
