Shonisani Lethole’s family takes legal action against health department

The family of a businessman who died after being denied food at Tembisa hospital is taking legal action against the Gauteng Department of Health.
Shonisani Lethole died of COVID-19 related illnesses in June 2020.
He was also denied food for several days and received sub-standard care.
Health Ombudsman Malegapuru Makgoba found the hospital guilty of gross negligence, saying Lethole’s death was preventable.
The family says it is still awaiting the implementation of the Ombud’s recommendations.
