Godfrey Lebeya has been appointed as the new head of the Hawks, Cabinet confirmed on Thursday.
He comes with an impressive record – being a career policeman, a former deputy police commissioner, an advocate and having completed his doctorate on organised crime.
Communications Minister Nomvula Mokonyane made the announcement during a post-Cabinet briefing.
Lebeya replaces Yolisa Matakata, who was appointed acting Hawks head by former police minister Fikile Mbalula.
This after Berning Ntlemeza’s appointment to the role was ruled irregular and unlawful by a court.
