Western Cape DA concerned with the growing trend of vandalising & robbing of libraries

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape is concerned over a growing trend of vandalism and robbery of libraries.

It said 306 libraries have been robbed in the past 5-years, while 110 were vandalized.

According to the party, over R27 million has been lost due to these criminal activities.

The DA’s spokesperson, Gillion Bosman said the police have failed to execute its duties.

“Unfortunately, crime continues to leech funding from the provincial government due to incapable SAPS. The DA-run western cape will continue to work with community members to protect our libraries as they play an important role in the development of young people.”

Meanwhile, the publication has sent an enquiry to SAPS for a comment on the matter but is still waiting for a response.
