DJ Maphorisa breaks the silence, here is why he stopped making Gqom music! Maphorisa has become one of South Africa’s favourite producers and musicians. However, his fans miss the days when he made Gqom music they loved.
According to Maphorisa, he moved on to new things because Durban producers and DJs said he’s not from Durban and Amapiano should be his genre. Maphorisa has been working hard and it paid off – the muso and producer is a huge favourite with South Africans.
Despite his new success – he even managed to spark Mzansi’s first challenge of 2020 – many of his fans miss the Gqom music he used to make.
Maphorisa has been doing awesome things in the Amapiano genre. Along with Kabza De Small, he got the country grooving in all seriousness.
On the Gqom front though, he went quiet.
Briefly.co.za noticed that Maphorisa interacted with a fan and revealed the real reason why he moved away from Gqom.
Apparently, it’s because Durban producers and DJs feel he should be focused on Amapiano – Gqom is a Durbs thing.

Whether his fans agree with these DJs and producers is up for debate.
Meanwhile, Maphorisa and Kabza got blamed for Thembinkosi Lorch’s bad action on the field.
The soccer player had displayed some less-than-stellar skills on the pitch as of late and social media put the blame all on Maphorisa and Kabza de Small.
Fans say DJ Maphorisa and Kabza de Small have jinxed the star footballer. Sounds like peeps are putting too much faith in the power of music.
