Gqeberha taxi strike suspended after meeting

Taxi associations in Gqeberha will return to work after week-long protest action.

Taxi owners gave the Labour Department seven days to check if COVID-19 relief payments were made.

Taxi operators met with associations on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality wants to deploy the army to quell taxi violence in the area.

Nqaba Bhanga says he’s approached the President to approve the move.

Taxi operators are angry, saying they’ve not received any COVID-19 relief funding.
