Juventus fire manager and club legend Andre Pirlo

Juventus fire coach and club legend Andre Pirlo. Italian giants, Juventus have sacked club legend Andrea Pirlo after the Serie A giants failed to win the league title for the first time in ten years.

Former Juventus coach, Max Allegri is tipped to replace Pirlo at Turin after two years away from football.

The former Italian midfield maestro is sacked following a miserable season that saw the team fighting to qualify for the Champions League despite having stars including Cristiano Ronaldo and Dybala. In a statement, Juve said:

And since in football, what counts are the victories, let’s remember them: in the space of a few short months Pirlo’s Juve has raised two trophies: The Italian Supercup and the Coppa Italia.

‘And he, as coach, brought home brilliant victories on the most prestigious of fields, from San Siro to Camp Nou.

‘For all this, for the courage, the dedication, the passion with which he demonstrated every day, our thanks go to the Maestro, the Coach and to Andrea, that really comes from the heart. As well as our good luck for the future that will surely be a wonderful one.

The club also published a photo gallery of Pirlo’s tenure as manager on their club website with no mention of the word ‘sacked’. Juventus failed to retain the title and their dominance of Serie A is over after Inter Milan clinched the title this season.

The 41-old Pirlo who managed to just squeeze Juve into the top four, albeit off the pace, took the managerial hot-seat following Maurizio Sarri’s sacking.

Under Pirlo’s leadership, Juve were knocked out of the Champions League by Porto in the last 16, a disappointing result given that the club signed Ronaldo to enhance its chances of winning the Champions League.

Ronaldo did his part as he sealed the season being the top goalscorer in Serie A. Pirlo’s sacking means Andrea Agnelli will hire his fourth coach in four seasons.
