Govt calls for calm after second COVID-19 case #CoronaVirusSA

A second case of the coronavirus has been confirmed in South Africa and the Health Department is urging all citizens to remain calm.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says his department is committed to mitigating the uncontrollable spread of the COVID-19 virus and wants cooperation from the public and the media during this period.

He has cautioned against believing every piece of coronavirus information on social media. Stop spreading fake news that either ridicule the efforts of the health workers or that frighten people…” Mkhize said.

Mkhize says the public will be informed on all relevant developments and that all South Africans should be prepared and protect themselves. The Health Department says a 39-year-old woman was in direct contact with the first confirmed patient in KwaZulu-Natal.

She will be admitted to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Gauteng for quarantine and treatment. The woman was part of a group of 10 that had travelled to Italy. The first patient and his wife were also part of the group.
