Gordhan calls on MPs to suggest Eskom solutions

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan presented a solutions-based speech for the energy crisis affecting the country during the debate on Eskom on Thursday.
The minister called on MPs to realise that the power crisis is a matter of national importance and asked them to bring concrete solutions rather than political squabbles.
Gordhan said the Eskom crisis should not be engaged from the point of view of campaigning.
The minister acknowledged the crisis and said the government had the beginnings of a solution with restructuring the utility.
He went on to outline the challenges facing Eskom, drawing attention to the specifics of what a “just transition” would encompass and the diversification of the energy industry.
