Fuel price to rise dramatically from Wednesday

Strained motorists will have to cough up even more for fuel from Wednesday. The petrol price for both 93 and 95 unleaded will increase by R1.71 per litre. Diesel will see a R2.84 a litre increase.  Diesel prices will increase by R2.76 cents.

The following fuel prices will be effective on Wednesday, the sixth of September – both grades of petrol will increase by R1.71 cents per litre. Diesel will increase by R2.76 cents and R2.84 cents per litre at a wholesale level,” said the department’s Robert Maake.

Maake said the increase in crude oil prices internationally was one of the reasons why the petrol price had been adjusted.

These large hikes are due to higher international oil costs and the volatile rand exchange rate. Illuminating paraffin prices will rise by R2.78 a litre, and the price of gas will increase by R2.25 per kilogram.
