Crime in SA: Thugs bust with cloned fuel cards

Two suspects, including a former cop, briefly appeared in the George Magistrates Court on Monday, 7 March, for their involvement in a fuel fraud syndicate.

Hawks spokeswoman Zinzi Hani said the two suspects, aged between 25 and 29, were arrested last Saturday.

This happened after an intensive investigation into the duo’s criminal activities at a petrol station in George.

“The Hawks team, together with local police, were able to arrest the alleged fraudsters operating with cloned fuel cards.

“The duo was arrested in possession of 15 25-litre containers of fuel and cloned cards with Western Cape government fleet card information on the magnetic strip,” Hani said.

She said the investigation into the matter was ongoing and more arrests were expected.

The suspects are expected back in court on 14 March for bail application.
