Fuel Association warns against deregulating the fuel market

The Fuel Retailers Association is calling on the government to refrain from deregulating the fuel market. The organisation has warned that this will destroy the transformation of the sector and prevent the emergence of new retailers.

Last week, the Mineral Resources and Energy Department proposed measures to replace the temporary fuel levy reduction, from June. One of the suggestions from stakeholders is to deregulate the industry, allowing players to determine their own prices. This will increase competition and lower the price of petrol.
