Lesbian shot dead in front of lover

A 42-year-old lesbian has been killed in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. The incident happened on Friday, 12 November when they were ambushed in their shack.
A 41-year-old survivor said she was sitting with her girlfriend and friend when the suspect came in and started shooting.
“I am not coping, and it still feels like a bad dream but sadly it is the truth. I will never see my lover again,” said the survivor.
According to her, the suspect didn’t take anything. He just started shooting at them, killing her sister and lover.
Her lover was shot in the head.
“I am not sure if we were attacked because we are lesbian or if it’s about the business I am in as I sell alcohol, but we didn’t have a fight with anyone,” said the victim.
Her wish is for the police to find the suspect.
“I am praying he gets arrested so that he can tell me why he did this,” she said.
She said they have been dating for five years.
“When the suspect came in, I hid behind the door but unfortunately my lover was standing by the cupboard and she was shot in the head. I saw her lying in a pool of blood and I do not know how I will ever erase that picture in my mind,” said the victim.
Khayelitsha Development Forum Chairman Ndithini Tyhido said they are always opposed to any form of violence against women and children.
“Femicide has of late come to be a frequent occurrence in our area. We are calling on all community members to report all acts of gender-based violence to the SAPS,” said Tyhido.
He urged community members in the area to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest and successful conviction of those responsible for the double murder.
Lingelethu police spokeswoman Sergeant Xoliswa Nyalambisa said a complaint of a shooting incident was received in Khayelitsha.
“Upon arrival, police found two women who were shot several times. One was lying on the floor in the front room while the second woman was found on the floor bedroom”, said Nyalambisa.
