Gungubele and former Postbank board must be held accountable: ACDP

The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) has called for accountability for what is happening at the Postbank. Earlier this week, the Communications and Digital Technologies minister Mondli Gungubele confirmed that he had removed the entire Postbank board of directors.
He said the move followed a KPMG forensic investigation report that suggested that the Postbank continued to use service providers that were not lawfully contracted. On Wednesday three Postbank board members resigned citing the Minister’s interference.
ACDP MP Steve Swart says both the Minister and the former board members must be held accountable for causing instability at the bank.
“The ACDP noted concern that the majority of board of directors at Postbank have resigned due to what they say was a break down in their relationship with minister Gungubele. The minister in his side says they have resigned to avoid accountability and place the company under administration after audit disclaimers and an alleged illegal software contract. Sadly, it is again the poor that will have to suffer, with half a million poor and vulnerable pensioners and disability grants recipients who did not receive their grants due to a technical glitch at Postbank. The ACDP finds this disgraceful. Both the minister and the former board members must be held to account and plans for the Postbank to operate as a fully fledged state owned bank must be reconsidered.
