One of the two security guards wounded during a shooting at Folweni High School early last month succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
The guards came under fire from two armed suspects who forced entry into the school and made off with equipment.
They were both hospitalised after sustaining gunshot wounds.
The incident happened shortly after the killing of a teacher on school grounds in the same area.
It has once again raised questions about safety in schools.
