FlySafair Continues Operations Amid Ongoing Negotiations with South Africa Cabin Crew Association

FlySafair has assured passengers that all flights will operate as scheduled despite ongoing wage negotiations with the South Africa Cabin Crew Association (SACCA). The airline remains confident that discussions with the union will reach a positive resolution soon, ensuring stability and reliability for travelers.

Negotiations between FlySafair and the South Africa Cabin Crew Association (SACCA) are ongoing after wage talks reached a deadlock last week. SACCA, which represents approximately 65% of the airline’s 800 cabin crew members, is currently reviewing the company’s latest proposal.

The offer on the table includes a 5.7% salary increase as well as enhanced monthly allowances, reflecting FlySafair’s commitment to acknowledging the hard work and dedication of its cabin crew team. Despite the challenges faced in reaching an agreement, both parties have expressed a willingness to continue discussions in good faith.

According to FlySafair Chief Marketing Officer Kirby Gordon, negotiations have been constructive even though a final settlement has not yet been reached. “Unfortunately, negotiations are still ongoing… the parties didn’t finalise a settlement yesterday [Monday]. They did have some very constructive engagements but unfortunately, they didn’t manage to sign anything,” Gordon explained.

FlySafair Reassures Passengers: No Flight Disruptions Expected

While talks continue, FlySafair has moved quickly to reassure passengers that its flight schedule remains unaffected. The airline confirmed that no disruptions or cancellations are expected, as all flights are being operated by both unionized and non-unionized crew members who have accepted the company’s offer.

Gordon added that the airline’s full roster is “fully protected” and that the operational schedule remains stable. “Unfortunately, the deadline for the employer-initiated work stoppage has now passed. That commenced as of midnight last night, but what’s really important to emphasize is that our full roster is fully protected with all scheduled flights covered by non-unionised crew members and, of course, by unionised crew members that have already accepted the company’s offer,” he said.

This assurance has been welcomed by passengers who rely on FlySafair for its affordable fares, punctuality, and wide domestic route network. Morning departures went ahead as planned, and operations continued smoothly at major airports across South Africa.

Throughout the negotiation process, FlySafair has maintained its commitment to open dialogue and fair treatment of staff. The airline emphasized that it values its employees’ contributions and aims to find a solution that supports both its workforce and long-term operational sustainability.

By proposing a 5.7% salary increase and improved monthly allowances, FlySafair aims to strike a balance between recognizing employee needs and maintaining the company’s position as one of South Africa’s most affordable and reliable carriers.

The airline has also reiterated its commitment to passengers, ensuring that customer service standards remain uncompromised during this period of negotiation. FlySafair’s proactive management of crew schedules has helped maintain smooth operations and avoid the disruptions that often accompany industrial action in the aviation industry.

The discussions between FlySafair and SACCA come at a time when several industries in South Africa are facing wage negotiation challenges. Rising living costs and inflation have placed pressure on both employers and employees to find equitable solutions that safeguard livelihoods while ensuring business sustainability.

For FlySafair, maintaining its reputation for reliability and affordability remains a top priority. As the airline continues to expand its routes and strengthen its domestic market share, stable labour relations will play a crucial role in supporting its long-term growth and customer confidence.

Passengers booked on upcoming FlySafair flights can rest assured that their travel plans are secure. The airline has confirmed that all scheduled flights are operating normally, and its contingency planning ensures that service continuity is maintained even amid ongoing discussions.

Customer communication remains a core focus for FlySafair, with the airline actively updating passengers via its official channels and social media pages. The company encourages travelers to check their flight status online for real-time updates but maintains that disruptions are highly unlikely.

As FlySafair and the South Africa Cabin Crew Association continue their discussions, both sides appear committed to finding a fair and sustainable resolution. The airline’s decision to maintain full operations demonstrates its strong planning and dedication to passengers’ needs.

With its continued focus on employee engagement, operational reliability, and customer satisfaction, FlySafair remains one of South Africa’s leading low-cost carriers — proving that even amid negotiations, FlySafair’s commitment to excellence in service and safety never falters.
