
Police have gunned down five suspects in Keiskammahoek in the Eastern Cape. The suspects are believed to have been part of the cash-in-transit heist that took place on the N6 between East London and Komani yesterday.
Police discovered explosives and firearms at the scene of the shooting. Provincial Police Commissioner Nomthetheleli Mene has described the arrest as a major breakthrough in fighting cash-in-transit heists in the province.
She says, “As they approached the house, the suspects came out and they started shooting at the police and a shootout ensued where five or the suspects were fatally wounded. Here on the crime scene upon doing further investigation, we have noticed there may been explosives that have been used earlier on.
