Amandla Development is a nonprofit organisation whose mission is the cradle-to-career success of the young people we serve in Philippi and Mitchell’s Plain.

We coordinate a network of 150 other community stakeholders and are based in Philippi. We’re intent on changing the way development work is done and welcome original thinkers who prize excellence and impact.

Your Mission:

Amandla is seeking an experienced finance professional to lead our finance department for our growing team of 191. As we take Amandla to the next level, we’re seeking someone excited to build a finance structure to match.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience of managing a finance department of similar size, as well as demonstrated experience meeting donor requirements for international donors such as PEPFAR and Global Fund.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting duty of some kind for funders/board- gotta grasp what they want to know to do this well; gotta grasp HOW to present this to get them what they need and what’s also compelling for us

· Aligning our growth goals with funder priorities and budgets

· Consistent monitoring at all times of cash flows to be able to articulate at least weekly to the management team and fundraising team the status of budget vs actual spending and any priority deficits for proposal development

· Working closely with programmes teams to understand activity costs and flow

· Developing proposal budgets

· Developing systems and procedures that maximise efficiencies

· Supervising and setting the pace for the finance department to deliver on its quarterly, monthly, and weekly strategic goals

Outputs:

· Weekly updates on budget vs actual spending, as well as priority deficits and overall organisational financial health

· Monthly management accounts and quarterly board reports

· Work with Leadership Team to develop SMART finance department strategic plan within first three months

· Develop and execute training programme for relevant staff in updated policies and procedures within your first six months

· Develop and implement updated programme staff budgeting and monitoring tools within your first three months

Competencies and Skills:

· Minimum three to five years at management/supervisory level for an organisation of similar size

· Qualification

· Comfortable with appropriate budget and project management software and other cloud-based tools

· Demonstrated ability to zoom out and consider the strategic impacts of your decisions on the organisation as a whole

· Excellent, proactive communication (written and oral) skills

· Fluent English, preferably also proficient Xhosa and Afrikaans

· Developing budgets based on deep understanding of programmatic goals and funder requirements
