Eskom promises no outages as Transnet maintenance kicks in

Eskom is promising there will be no power interruptions while the country’s entire coal rail line is being shut down for ten days. This is for Transnet to do maintenance.

The power utility says it has enough stockpiles to last through this period.

The maintenance work will have a direct impact on Eskom’s operations, the mining sector and the Richards Bay Coal Terminal.

Transnet says the power utility has known about the planned upkeep for some time.

Over a period of ten days, Transnet will replace old, obsolete and problematic infrastructure at a cost of R266-million.
