Outa calls for overhaul of Eskom pricing structure

Outa is calling for a complete overhaul of the electricity pricing system.

Currently, Eskom can ask to increase tariffs to cover losses due to low demand or low economic growth and Outa wants that to change.

“What we need is a fixed price trajectory over three to five years which is what we are supposed to have without a loophole that enables Eskom to go back,” Outa’s Liz McDaid said.

“They have to do planning like any other business and if you don’t make your revenue, you have to go back to the drawing board and implement changes so that you can meet your targets.”
