Eskom chairperson Mpho Makwana says his business interests will not interfere with his duties at the utility. He has been accused of being directly involved in an Independent Power Producer. But he maintains he has stepped down as non-executive director of that board.
He also says his other business interests are small entrepreneurial enterprises. Makwana will also retain his position on the board of Nedbank.
“I haven’t held any commercial interests in an IPP since 2019. I sold them all in 2019 after 10 years, which felt like the right time to do it. I sold all those interests,” Makwana said Until Friday, I was an independent non-executive director of one of the country’s IPP’s and as soon as I got the call, I stepped down immediately.
