Eldorado Park residents, police face off over teen’s death

Residents of Eldorado Park in Johannesburg have clashed with police after a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed. Police used rubber bullets to disperse community members who gathered to protest.

Protesters took to the streets, calling for the removal of the officers involved in the death of the teen. A local man from the area’s Economic Civil Organisation said the police in the area are corrupt.

“They are the cause of the unhappiness in our community,” he said.

Reports say the teen, who had Down syndrome, had left his house to try and find food.

While he was out, a police van pulled up to the street and switched the emergency lights on.

The police allegedly shot at the boy. The teen was taken to Baragwanath Hospital where he later died.
