eHostela dethrones #TheQueenmzansi

The real reason eHostela knocked The Queen out of the second position on DSTV! eHostela is a hard-hitting crime series by Stain Glass TV(the team behind Mzansi’s most-watched show, Uzalo which obtained 8million views in January).

The series was such a hit the first time around that it returned for season 2 with renowned actor; Dumisani Dlamini, Mduduzi Mabaso and many more actors joining the show as new leaders of the Brotherhood.

eHostela is relatable, in terms of dialogue, the setting is realistic and all the actors deliver their lines exceptionally. The series pulled 1.76million viewers in its first month which is phenomenal because it only plays once a week on Sunday whilst The Queen plays five time a week at 9 pm.

The Queen pulled 1.66million viewers for January compared to December viewers of 1.3million viewers, whilst Gomora topped the list with 1.85million viewers. Though the show has gained more viewers, it wasn’t enough to save its signature second position because of the poor storylines and not-so-great casting.

The Queen to fire a Male Actor

Truth be told, The Queen lost its spark when the Mabuza’s left the show! The Mabuza’s made The Queen and The Sebata’s don’t come close to what TGom, Mabatho and Kea Khoza did for the show.

Fans of the show have also noticed a trend for the show “ruining good actors”! For example: as soon as multi-award-winning actress, Brenda Ngxoli joined the show, she became unrecognisable and cringing, same goes for Rapulana Seiphemo and Jessica Nkosi! They are not bad actors, they’re just given poor storylines…there’s nothing really interesting to see anymore.

If eHostela were to be pushed to 1Magic for example at the same timeslot, five times a week as The Queen; The Queen would see FLAMES!

There were however mixed reviews from fans of eHostela, who believe that season 1 was way, way better than the current season. S2 of eHostela is not that wow and exciting like the S1 but it’s watchable than The Queen most definitely.

The Queen

“Like, first season is one on my top 2. This one I’m struggling hey, I tried it’s not for me. Mandla N is a dope director.

“The queen is very likely to end up like Isibaya, if it’s not there already. I used to be a huge fan of both and stopped watching both, it’s not enjoyable at all.”

“I’m not surprised. Season 5 of The Queen kicked off on a very promising note with the arrival of the Sebata family & with Phathu excellently writing the pilot episode. However, somewhere along the line, the plots just lacked that ‘reason to watch’ X Factor.”

“The Queen is boring bro we need a break from it. This makes sense….. Akere those guys had us watching Norma & Charles the whole month.
