EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu assault trial date expected in February

EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu is likely to go to trial next year for assaulting a journalist. Shivambu is facing a charge of common assault and appeared in the Cape Town magistrate’s court on Thursday.

He is accused of assaulting Media24 journalist Adrian de Kock in the Parliamentary precinct in 2018.

His lawyer says representations for diversion and mediation have been denied by the NDPP.

A trial date will be decided on 11 February 2021.
