Salga blames weak education system

Salga is blaming poor service delivery on a lack of skills in government and, it blames that on a weak education system.

The local government association says many appointees are not fit and proper.

“More often than, you’ll find that there are two capitals that must serve as an input,” said Salga’s Thami Ngubane.

“The first capital is the human capital. There’s a problem in terms of the public sector, in terms of the serving of technical skills.

“There is a deficit in terms of the technical skills which impacts the ability of the system to produce service.

“In the case of water, people expect clean water provided over 24 hours at the right pressure,” he said.

“This is not happening because there is a technical skills deficit so the people who are there are not fit and proper.”

“Our view is that you must have a conversation with those who are supposed to supply us with the skills.

“The education system is not rising to the occasion,” Ngubane said.

“There’s a weak training and education system which impeding on the development of skilled professionals.”
