Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane said the Provincial Command Council may to ask the national council to stop the sale of alcohol. The province has the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases after the Western Cape.
Mabuyane says alcohol and funerals are still a major problem. We have indicated that even in funerals we still have some people drinking alcohol while the funeral is continuing on the other side,” he said. Funerals remain a source of a problem, in terms of the infections, even though our numbers were limited to 50.
“Generally, in society, our people are complying with the number 50 but the 50 is still huge. If one person is carrying the virus at that funeral and is able to transmit it to other people, it will move like that,” the premier said.
