Santaco condemns attack on e-hailing driver

The SA National Taxi Council (Santaco) has condemned an assault on an e-hailing driver in Ekurhuleni.

He was attacked earlier, allegedly by members of the Katlehong People’s Taxi Association.

Santaco’s Midday Mali said they are in communication with the Transport Department of Gauteng to create a platform to deal with issues affecting the taxi industry.

“We really want to say, as Santaco in Gauteng, we want to apologize,” he said.

“We don’t condone these kinds of actions that were done by drivers (or patrollers) to the gentleman. We want to say we humbly and strongly apologize.”

Gauteng Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo said he’ll be meeting with the Kathlehong association on Monday.

The meeting will discuss the culture of violence in the industry.

Mamabolo says the violence needs to come to an end.
