Durban beaches closed after E.coli discovery

Durban beaches have been closed following the discovery of high levels of E.coli in the water.

It is linked to the recent floods in the province.

“So we decided to close our beaches after we received water quality results that have high E.coli,” said Nomusa Ntshangase from eThekwini municipality.

“E.coli is a bacteria that can be found in water that has been contaminated with feces of an infected human or animal.”

Ntshangase says the metro is doing everything in its power to get E. coli levels to acceptable standards.
