
Advanced life support paramedics, with NetCare911, responded to a drowning incident just after 14:00 on New Year’s Day at Durban’s beachfront, at Pirate’s Beach.
Paramedics arrived on the scene to find lifeguards and Durban Metro Search and Rescue personnel attempting to resuscitate a teenager believed to be approximately 16 years old. Despite their efforts, together with an off-duty doctor, the patient passed away at the scene.
It is believed that two other teenagers were swept out to sea, and lifeguards were conducting a search for them.
At this stage, the events leading up to the drowning are unknown, however, SAPS were at the scene and will be investigating further.
