SOME men and women are happy to live a lie and cheat on their partners. But that wasn’t the case with 28-year-old professional boxer Innocent “Tycoon” Mantengu from Mtubatuba, northern KZN.
When his makhwapheni refused to end their secret relationship, he decided to make it known to his main girlfriend. Now he’ll marry both Nontobeko Zulu (22) and Nomzamo Mkhabela (21). Innocent has paid lobola for both his women and built them houses. He said he started dating Nontobeko in 2012 and Nomzamo in 2015.
“Growing up, I always wanted to have more than one wife, but I never thought things would start this early. I took a brave step and told Nontobeko about Nomzamo. At first she didn’t take it well, but with time they both learnt to live with it. Innocent said they were like sisters now and have each other’s back.
“They visit each other. Even when I call them, I do conference calls and there are no secrets. We go on vacation together, and when I’m home we eat out with the kids,” he said. What makes me happy is that they help each other in raising our kids.”
On his birthday in July, he drove drown to Durban and proposed to both of them. He’ll marry his first wife Nontobeko in a traditional wedding on 15 December, and early next year it will be Nomzamo’s turn. They will then plan a white wedding at which he’ll marry them both.
Nontobeko said at first it was hard to accept she was in such a relationship, but she had learnt to live with it. I’m very happy. I’m now very close to Nomzamo. We’re a happy family,” said Nontobeko. Nomzamo said she wasn’t ready to lose Innocent. I couldn’t let him go. It was hard at the beginning, but we’re happy now,” she said.
