Municipal workers threaten to down tools

The South African Municipal Workers Union is threatening to down tools.

Negotiations with the bargaining council have hit a stalemate.

One of the demands is for some union members to be absorbed permanently into municipalities.

“Our demand for all the EPW and CWP workers to be absorbed in the municipalities,” said SA Municipal Workers Union, Dumisane Magagula.

“These are employees who are exploited by the municipalities and they are paid a meager salary up to R1,800 a month and we want them to be paid like all the other municipal employees.”
